Introduction
Disability can be a way into understanding how different bodies use the space around us. Architecture can help us to explore the relationships between the design elements and principles and disability, and how we can start taking the step for us to take notes and develop necessary design approaches to provide a unique spatial experience.
Project Task & Overview
In a group of 3, students are required to design a Disability Experience Pavillion in a small recreational space in a hypothetical park. The exploration of this theme is to understand the spatial experience of physically disabled users and have additional programs or activities related to the project. The pavilion should be designed within an area of 8m (w) x 8m (l) x 4m (ht).
Presentation Board
The Pavillion design intention is cater towards to those who have hearing impairment and embracing them where creating a safe space for them and allowing them to explore, experience, and easily to communicate to each both verbally and non-verbally.
Design Process
The material that is used to allow users to visually see through the pavilion which helps the user to communicate each other non- verbally.
The center creates a performing platform for activities to be perform and the screen allows the users to watch the performance from the other side.
The intimate space at the center creates closure for the people to make them closer to communicate.
Reflection
Project 1 has taught me how we were able to develop architecture design about the consideration of physical disability to ensure the user feels safe and comfortable. Moreover, how materiality added to the Pavillion is relevant to the design intention and the disabled needs. Thus, having careful consideration and the program we selected as a group that is suited for the Pavillion and people with hearing impairment.
