Project 3 : Designing with Architectural Principles + Materiality + Context + User: Tropical Solitary Haven
Tropical Retreat
Introduction
Design a solitary haven at Wawasan Recreational Park, Puchong. Solitary haven denotes ‘a structure that is designed for a clean and healthy living and working environment with access to nature to boost the immune system and improve psychological wellbeing. The structure should be within the built-up space of maximum 100sqm and be able to accommodate 2 people, including yourself and a family member comfortably in a short spend of solitary time..
Project Task
Part 1- Large Group Task : Site data collection (Macro Site)
In project 3, we were introduced to conduct an on site data and analysis of the physical context of the site in a large group. The following data that had been collected were:
-
site layout
-
climate studies
-
natural physical features
-
existing man made structure
-
Circulation pattern
-
Human Activities
-
Sensory studies
Part 2: Small Group Task: Diagramming Site Analysis Using Design Vignettes (Micro-Site)
in a small group we were assigned to select two micro-site and produced Site Analysis using Design Response Vignettes.
At same time, individually we chose one of the potential site and propose site use alternatives diagrams
Part 3: Individual Task: Designing a Tropical Solitary Haven (Micro Site)
This final project extends the understanding of architecture principles, design concept and process. It introduces the notion of architectural space making through the design of a user specific architectural scheme
Reflection
From Project 3 I got to experience on site research to develop Site Analysis and developing my own Site alternatives. Moreover, using the site alternatives that we learned implement it into our design which showed the consideration of the site context I had to take in which then would affect the design of the building. From there, I learned how to create a space for a specific activity that would bring a certain emotions by understanding the basic level of the materiality and detailing as means to capture experiential qualities of the design
